the world's an onion, peeled to tears

umpteen writers have umpteen expressions about 2011. the very concept of looking at a year ahead or the year that was reminds me of a mathematically challenged mindset that somewhat unconsciously runs parallel to the 'financial year' concept of primitive accountancy. it's like getting hold of one photon from a never ending beam of light...non-sense, simply non-sense.

it's time for designers, planners, thinkers to bring in a sense of continuity rather than making people believe that some of the worst things in the last 365 (+1 every 'leap') of your life will never get repeated or that the best moments in the same span will never be overcome by more joyous jolts.

each year-end, as liquor lobbies end up cash packed in pool-side parties attended by financially fighting urban classes, millions continue to wait for the 6.5 pc inflation to dip. An acquaintance the other day said that a hardware seller this season was offering 5kgs of onions free, if you buy hardware from him within a stipulated time period. (For people not familiar with current indian situation, i just intend to add that onion prices have gone up drastically this season.) Just a couple of months ago we were welcoming a new year according to another calendar...and on offer was silver! and now onions.

Where's the next party, buddy?
