oh rose! you stayed when others left my bones to melt...

we don't get roses, any more, the way they used to be offered.

we don't get roses for others, any more, the way we used to get for them.

roses were never a commodity, perceived - even as the last century went to grave, joining its predecessors in graveyards of history. roses were extensions of our emotions as much in South Asia, as in other emotionally potent civilizations globally. pick any film, greeting card, photograph, sketch, art-work - the replica of a rose that in turn replicated inner emotion - roses were never a second.

rosy, rose, gulab, gulabo...we remembered and acknowledged rose for its favours. with time, monetary values, rose. several options were then available. initially rose fought thorns. bouquets were now costlier. and despite this promoted monetary valuation, finally, roses lost the fight, mostly.

roses are still gifted in bulks, by people who not necessarily are interested in more than making symbolic gestures. roses still cover backdrops of our drawing and living rooms. but they rarely connect us and those who gifted.

not any more, do people show me a rose crushed between pages of a self scribbled collection of memoirs. the rose culture is losing essence.

oh rose! you stayed when others left my bones to melt
in nature's lap, silently i was reclaimed
you chose to perish, blend, waiting above my grave
till clouds turned tears to make us one.
